images-1BOURBONNAIS, ILL – Sarah Ray had quite the impact this fall in her freshman cross country season at Olivet Nazarene University.

Ray, a 2013 WCHS graduate, capped the year in a big way by earning All-American honors at the NAIA National Championships in Kansas.

Ray raced to an overall finish of 15th place in the field of 319 runners at the meet to earn All-Ameircan accolades. Ray finished in a time of 18:18.82 as her No. 8 ranked team earned a fifth-place finish.

Ray also earned Freshman of the Year honors in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference this fall. She was twice named the CCAC Runner of the Week. Ray was eighth overall in a field of 356 runners in her first collegiate race at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. She also won the race at the Fighting Bees Invitational and was second at the Great Lakes Invite in a field of 363 runners in a personal best time of 17:56.75.

Ray, who moved to Warsaw during her high school career, was a three-sport athlete at WCHS. She placed 33rd at the Cross Country State Finals in 2012 in her first season running cross country. Ray was also a backup guard for the Warsaw girls basketball team last season that posted a 24-2 mark and won NLC, sectional and regional championships. Ray placed 11th in the 3,200 and 14th in the 1,600 at the Track State Finals at IU this past June.

Ray is the daughter of David and Betsy Ray of Warsaw.
